Loosing Everyting… 🤕🤢😰ðŸ˜
If you think life is hard or even going great guns listen to this.
I was left heartbroken after this.
I want to tell you a heartbreaking story. A story that could have been avoided if different decisions were made.
Recently I went up to Cairns for a family members wedding. So I’m on the plane, earphones in, tapping away on my laptop when I was tapped on the arm by the lady sitting beside me, who proceeded to say “I know you.” I got excited thinking it was because of my recent vlogging.
Turns out I met Jenny & her husband almost 6 years ago at a finance & property expo in Ballarat. After about 5 minutes of chatting the memories of the two flooded back.
They came along to the expo merely out of curiosity and in the end, didn’t proceed with any of my recommendations. To be fair my approach and delivery of strategies are completely different from the way I do things now, but their mindset wasn’t unreasonable.
They weren’t phased at their $600k mortgage even though they were in their 50’s as they worked out they could have it paid off before Harry planned to retire at 65, and they could still do all the things they loved doing.
You see, Harry had a super successful consulting business that had provided for their family for many years and unlike many self-employed clients, Harry had been contributing to his super which was well over the Australian average. Furthermore they had additional money saved to give to their children and grandchildren as inheritance.
But this is where their story takes a drastic turn. 18 months ago, Harry was diagnosed with a rare illness that wasn’t covered under insurance. The only option was to fund treatment themselves.
In short they used all of their super, the money saved for their families inheritance and had to sell their dream home to fund Harry’s treatment, which unfortunately didn’t save his life.
If loosing the love of your life wasn’t hard enough, the reason Jenny was on the plane is she was moving to Cairns to live with her sister as she couldn’t afford to live on her own.
Jenny said one of her biggest regrets is not acting on mine and other professionals advice because she always thought life would continue they way it was.
When we were disembarking I gave Jenny a big hug and wished her the best.
Moral of the story, don’t leave it until its too late.
